Trends in Obesity-Related Mortality and Racial Disparities

Background: Across the globe, obesity stands as a prominent public health concern, linked to heightened susceptibility range of metabolic and cardiovascular disorders. This study reveals disproportionate impact on African American (AA) communities, irrespective socioeconomic status. Structural racism plays critical role in perpetuating healthcare disparities between AA other racial/ethnic groups United States. These are reflected limited access nutritious food, safe exercise spaces, insurance, medical care, all which significantly influence outcomes prevalence. Additionally, both conscious unconscious interpersonal adversely affect outcomes, patient-healthcare provider interactions among Blacks. Study objective: aims analyze compare obesity-related mortality rates AAs, Whites, racial groups. Methodology: We queried CDC WONDER dataset, incorporating US death certificates. During data extraction, various ICD 10 codes were used denote different categories: E66.1 (drug-induced obesity), E66.2 (severe with alveolar hypoventilation), E66.3 (overweight), E66.8 (other forms E66.9 (unspecified E66.0 (obesity due excess calorie intake), E66.01 calories), E66.09 caused by intake).
